Minnesota Twins take on the Kansas City Royals in a 3 game series this weekend

Today the Minnesota Twins travel to Kansas City to take on the Royals in the first game of a 3 Day- 3 Game series. The Twins are coming off of a great road series winning streak and I'm one Twins Fan who is very hopeful that they can keep the winning up!

The last time that the Minnesota Twins took on the Kansas City Royals was this August at home when they lost the series. Twins fans are hopeful that there will not be a reappearance of the late summer slump. Today's game is at 7:10, tomorrow the Twins-Royals play at 6:10 and on Sunday the two teams face off at 1:10.

Directly after the series with Kansas City Royals, my Twinkies are heading to Detroit for one last road series before returning to Minneapolis for the last series at the Metrodome. Lets all hope for 3 sweeps!

Just when you were ready to give up on the Minnesota Twins

So yesterday's post was a little harsh, now I'm not taking back what I said... sometimes I think the Twins need a little tough love. Instead, I'm going to use positive reinforcement and commend my boys on the awesome turn-around they pulled out yesterday. After losing on Tuesday to the lowest-scoring team in the American League, the Twins fought back last night and beat the Kansas City Royals 7-1. In a game that restored the hopes and faith of the loyal Twins fan base.

A large contributor to last nights win was Francisco Liriano. The left-handed pitcher who hasn't been performing very well this season stepped out of the bull pen last night relaxed and ready to play. Liriano told a reporter, "I didn't try so hard, didn't try to make perfect pitches, that's the main thing. I tried not to overthrow." Whatever he was trying worked and I for one would like to see him try it again today. GO Twins!!

Twins Fans hang their heads in disbelief

In baseball when there is a total shut-out, fans of the losing team like to blame the other guys. Often you will here them say things like, "They are just untouchable this season" or "Have you been watching how they hit on the road, its crazy" or "They brought it tonight, we never had a shot"... most of the time these justifications make you feel a little better about your own team and the big ole' L they just posted...

But when the WORST team in the American League not only beats you, but spanks you at home, as a fan you might as well just shut your mouth and hang your head in shame. Needless to say for anyone who watched last night's Twins game, Miguel Olivo and the Kansas City Royals handed it to us.. and then they did it again, and again, and then a few more times for good measure. Astute Twin's fans should have known that when Olivo's first 3 at-bats produced a triple, a homer and a single that we should have called it a night then. No such luck, the Twins sucked it up all night and posted a 6-14 final score against the KC Royals who have been the lowest-scoring club all season, go figure.

Lets just say that if tonight and tomorrows games don't go better, I'm one Twins fan who will be going into the fan relocation agency first thing Monday morning... GO TWINS (I guess?)

Minnesota Twins sweep Kansas City

I wish the Minnesota Twins could play the Kansas City Royals every day! The Twins swept the Royals in Kansas City winning 4-3, 9-8 and 5-1 in the past three days. The Kansas City Royals have now lost 11 straight games. Ouch.

Last night, Craig Monroe hit a three run homer as part of a five run ninth inning for the Twins. He was so excited when he got back to the dugout. The Twins actually looked like they were having fun playing baseball. It was the second straight night somebody hit a three-run homer in the ninth at Kauffman Stadium – oh what a night! Justin Morneau got to be the hero hitting a homer to win the game. I wish I would have been at that game – it had all of the classic elements of a memorable MLB game for this Twins fan; great weather, come from behind, homeruns and my favorite player getting a home run to win the game.

Tonight, Kevin Slowey got another win and he is begging to be put on my favorite pitchers list. We’ll see Kevin – I will think about it.

Twins Need to Play Harder

It’s no secret that the Cleveland Indians are a better baseball team than the Minnesota Twins. The Indians swept the Twins last week at the Dome and deflated any possible hopes of the Twins making the playoffs. This Minnesota Twins fan was disgusted that not even one of the three games were even close. The Indians beat the Twins 0-5, 5-7, 2-6 in the three game series.

Following the depressing Indian series, the Twins traveled to U.S. Cellular Field to play the Chicago White Sox where they lost two of the three games in that series. The Chicago White Sox are at the bottom of the AL Central and the Twins should have been able to win at least two of the games. Word on the street is that Ron Gardenhire had a team meeting after the second White Sox loss that included a long lecture about playing tough baseball even if they aren’t making the playoffs. Gardy is known for his “you’re a professional baseball player so act like it” speeches and this verbal spanking must have worked because the Twins have won three games in a row including beating the Kansas City Royals two games this week and are predicted to beat them again this afternoon (see the fan poll below.) At over 50% odds, this Minnesota Twins fan will take any positive Minnesota Twins news she can get. Go Twins! Don’t quit on me yet! Twins Postpone Royals Game due to Tragedy

Today’s Minnesota Twins vs. Kansas City Royals afternoon game has been postponed in light of the tragic I-35W bridge collapse. The Twins also postponed tonight’s groundbreaking ceremony for the new ballpark. More games could possibly be postponed for the team's weekend series with the Cleveland Indians but information regarding those games is not yet available. The Twins decided to play Wednesday nights game in an effort to help the traffic situation downtown. If the game had cancelled, it would have put another 20,000 fans back into the streets of downtown Minneapolis during the critical rescue hours. There was a moment of prayer held before the game and fans were encouraged to stay off of their cell phones and exit calmly if they were going to leave. The Twins lost to the Royals in overtime as Twins pitcher Juan Rincon gave up a two-run homer in the 10th inning.

This Minnesota Twins fan sends out prayers and peace to the people of Minneapolis and to those families directly impacted by this tragedy. I drove on that bridge the day prior to collapse and I frequently use that bridge to get to the Metrodome in Minneapolis. This tragedy definitely hits home. My hometown first responders were called in to assist with rescue and recovery and my prayers of safety go out to them as well. Be safe Twins fans, be safe!!

Twins Won't Fade

Somehow, improbably, astoundingly, the Minnesota Twins are still clawing and scrapping in the Central Division playoff hunt. I’m sure many were ready to write off the Twins after their crushing loss to the Cleveland Indians in that first game of last weekend’s series. But somehow, the resiliency of the Twins has shone through yet again, as they took the final two games on Saturday and Sunday from a charging Tribe.

Monday, the Twins had Luis Castillo listed as their leadoff hitter against the Kansas City Royals. Come game time, Castillo was likely packing his suitcase and heading to the Big Apple – Castillo was traded to the New York Mets a mere hours before the game. The Twins are giving up on the 2007 season, right? Well they might be planning for next season, but as long as they keep winning, they have no choice but to stay in contention, and that’s what’s happening to the club now. The Twins have dropped a few in a row and won a few in a row throughout the season and now they still have a chance down the stretch. If that one solid seven game winning streak can come this week, the Twins might find themselves in striking distance of either the Indians or the Detroit Tigers. It’s an exciting time to get some Twins tickets, let’s see if they can do it again to the Tigers this season.

TWINS LOSE FOUR IN A ROW

The word is out; the Minnesota Twins are in their first slump since last June! Losing the last four games has been hard on the ball club, but I think Twins fans will start to see some changes pretty soon and not just with the pitching.

At the plate, the Twins have really been struggling. The big sluggers of the team, Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau, didn’t manage one single hit last night against the Royals! Manager Ron Gardenhire believes the team has been pressing a bit too much and rather than making the young pitchers they've faced work deep into the counts, the Twins have been chasing pitches. Hitting coach Joe Vavra has got to tell the boys to be more patient and make the pitchers work a little harder. The Twins need to wait for the pitchers to make mistakes and they will, but the Twins batters have got to be ready to capitalize on them.

The Twins finish up a four game home stand today with an afternoon game at the Metrodome vs. the Kansas City Royals. On the mound for the Twins is Boof Bonser. Boof has been average this season, but let’s hope he can keep the Royals bats quiet long enough for the Twins to slam some of their own balls over the fence. Go Twins!
