Minnesota Twins Spring Training

Fort Myers, FloridaThe Minnesota Twins Spring Training is underway in Fort Myers, Florida. You can imagine the weather is a little nicer down there than in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pitchers and catchers have reported for duty over the weekend. Some players are already down there training including new Japenese player Tsuyoshi Nishioka, Denard Span, Alexi Casilla, and Ben Revere. Soon, all the position players will be down there and Spring Training will be officially underway. Check out Ticket King for Minnesota Twins Spring Training tickets!

Minnesota Twins Gossip

My boss has a friend that gets insider information from the Minnesota Twins organization and the last time he went to lunch with his buddy I asked him to try and get me some juicy Twins gossip for my Minnesota Twins blog. Well, here is what he got me…it’s not all that juicy, but the source is truly an insider and my guess is he is careful about what he says.

Number 1: Carlos Gomez has got to start hitting better, Gardy is not happy with Gomez speed alone. He told Gomez very sternly to step it up last week.

Number 2: Twins expected Francisco Liriano to suck. Sure the media said he was throwing well and he said he was feeling great, but Joe Vavra and Twins coaching team knew Liriano was going to have a terrible year and they are not sure if he will ever be a star MLB pitcher.

Number 3: Denard Span doesn’t know how to play baseball. Twins coaches are irked because he misses signs and screws up the basics of baseball.

Number 4: Delmon Young has a posse wherever he goes and it irritates Ron Gardenhire and several other star Minnesota Twins players. Young thinks he’s more or a rap star than an outfielder.

Twins Roster is all but set

Ron Gardenhire keeps telling the media that the Twins starting line-up is not set until opening day, but I think most Twins players and Twins fans knows who is starting where and when. The media has been all over the fact that Carlos Gomez will be the starting centerfielder and I am 99% certain that Nick Punto is out and Brendan Harris will be the Twins starting second baseman. Then there is shortstop Adam Everett and third baseman Mike Lamb that are all on the starting team and of course Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer.

Back to the centerfield debate, I don’t think we have seen the last of Denard Span…mark my words, he will be back this year. This guy is ready for the big leagues.

Twins Centerfield Presidential Match-Up

The Pioneer Press did a cute Twins Centerfield story today, relating the competition to be the starting Twin centerfielder to the presidential race. Denard Span said he was John McCain, that cracked me up…I wonder if Carlos Gomez is Hilary Clinton then? And Jason Pridie is Obama?

Remind me of this post next November, Twins Fans, wouldn’t it be something if the 2008 Twins Star Centerfielder matched up with our next president? Sure the Pio thought of it first, but they don’t take it to the next level like I am, stating that whichever player gets the spot, then his corresponding presidential candidate will also get the spot. Hmmmm…OK, I know it is a little hokey, but I just wish I was in Florida for Twins Spring Training and not sitting at my computer hacking away at the Twins Centerfield headline.
